Holding On

By:Sarah Wood

Warmth and security, clinging ever more fiercely

Holding onto the last remnants, wanting more to be

Clasping the waist, faces held close

Physically combined an extra, double dose

No pulling away, instead I must stay

Hoping you will love me again someday

Lips so close, but I must wait

Confusion in love leads only to a barred gate

Still in wait, yet trying to let go

Wishing all human feeling could extractedly flow

I tried to ignore you, I tried to feel hate

But your smiles and compassion led to irresistible bait

I fell for you again, gave you a second chance

Allowed the eyes to admiringly glance

The love and longing grew so intense

I let go of anything else that made sense

Just a few weeks, and you let it all go

Tearing away from my cheeks the soft, gentle glow

Only days later, the caresses began yet again

Making me ponder the actions of men

Lips so close, but I must wait

Confusion in love leads only to a barred gate

No pulling away, instead I must stay

Hoping you will love me again someday.
